Descripción

The story of Emil Sinclair's youth is a novel that recounts the childhood up to the maturity of this complicated character by the German writer Hermann Hesse. The work was first published in 1919. In it, Emil Sinclair is a boy who has lived his entire life in what he calls the Scheinwelt (dream world or world of light), but a lie leads him to broaden his views of the world and to meet an enigmatic character named Max Demian who will lead him along the paths of self-reasoning, destroying materialistic paradigms that previously surrounded him. The novel refers to and uses concepts from Gnosticism, particularly the demiurge (an entity that, without being a creator, drives the universe by imparting movement) Abraxas, while showing the influence of Carl Jung's psychoanalytic system.
