El laberinto de la soledad contains nine essays that constitute a profound reflection by its author on the nature and constitution of the contemporary Mexican, conceived by Paz as the product of a long process of miscegenation, which endows them with particular psychological, moral, cultural, and historical conditions. Thus, by analyzing the individual in micro, Paz attempts to address the macro of the Mexican people, as a collective historical subject, with the sole objective of being able to conceive a national identity.
