Descripción
Julio, the main character of "The Little Florentine Scribe", is a very likeable twelve-year-old Florentine boy with blond hair and a fair complexion, who is currently in fourth grade. He is also the eldest son of a railway employee who has a large family. Due to his father's meager salary, the family barely has enough to survive the needs of a large family. Seeing his father overworked by the need to support the family, little Julio, who is dedicated to his studies, considers that it is time to help with the family's finances. The risk of this decision is not only that his parents will discover what he is doing to alleviate the burden of the situation, but that day after day Julio is neglecting his schoolwork and also his health. His parents soon realize this fact, which is why Julio will have to tell the truth he was hiding with noble effort. The story of "The Little Florentine Scribe", which is part of Edmondo de Amicis' major work, "Heart", is a short story that invites us to reflect on the meaning of what it is to be a family and the role that each member plays within it. "The Little Florentine Scribe" is presented in this work along with other short stories by Edmondo de Amicis. Each story, one could say, is loaded with its moral teaching, and meanwhile, they are an invitation to reflect on the most human values of society.
