Join Abuela one Saturday afternoon to visit the Yamaya at the Hudson River.

Every day, Abuela misses the ocean in Puerto Rico. But on Saturdays, when the sun is high in the sky, Abuela and her granddaughter walk through Harlem to 12th Avenue on their way to a magical place: the Hudson River.

There, they visit the Yamaya, mermaids who invoke childlike wonder and preserve the memory of all who have passed through their waters. Together, Abuela, her granddaughter, and the spirits of ancient religion and family love celebrate the river that has brought millions of new Americans to its shores over generations.
