This large book is the first of multiple volumes detailing the names and actions of the most highly decorated heroes of the 1st Infantry Division. The book begins with a detailed of the 1st Infantry Division, and subsequent pages include all of the Division's recipients of the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, and Army Distinguished Service Medal, with their names, personal biographical information, and the text for the citations for their awards. Photos of many of the recipients are also included. This volume also includes recipients of the Silver Star for actions in the Global War on Terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan. Multiple appendixes analyze these awards by such criteria as rank, specialty, unit, and dates of action, as well as a comprehensive list of these heroes by home town and state.
