Emilio Salgari (1862 - 1911) was an Italian writer and journalist. He mainly wrote adventure novels, set in the most varied places, such as Malaysia, the Caribbean Sea, the Indian jungle, the African desert and jungle, the American West, the Australian jungles and even the Arctic seas. He created characters that fueled the imagination of millions of readers. Perhaps the best known of his characters is the pirate Sandokan. In Spanish-speaking countries, his work was particularly popular, at least until the seventies-eighties.
