About the Author
Isabel Allende was born in Peru where her father was a Chilean diplomat. She lived in Chile between 1945 and 1975, with long periods of residence in other places, in Venezuela until 1988 and, thereafter, in California. She began her literary career in journalism in Chile and Venezuela. Her first novel, The House of the Spirits, became one of the mythical titles of Latin American literature. Many others followed, all of which have been international successes. Her work has been translated into thirty-five languages. In 2010, she was awarded the National Prize for Literature of Chile, and in 2012, the Hans Christian Andersen Literature Award for her trilogy The Eagle and the Jaguar.
