"POEMAS DE AMOR" is one of Alfonsina Storni's (1892-1938) lesser-known works, but it is no less exquisite and truly important in Alfonsina's poetic production. The first edition of "Poemas de amor" was published in Buenos Aires in 1926 in the "Porter Hermanos" workshops. The work was well received and immediately reissued, and then, that same year, translated into French. In later years, other editions and other translations of what is considered the only prose work written by the poetess followed. "Poemas de amor," according to the author herself, was written "in a few days some time ago," which suggests that it corresponds to the period in which the author was experimenting with new styles and encountering new personal experiences, perhaps bitter ones, that would mark her poetic essence. "Poemas de amor" reveals Alfonsina's feminine intimacy, her vision, her tragic feelings, her anxieties, her agonies... but, basically, real love, as it is, raw, nuanced by thorny stages, paths typical of unhappiness... "El ensueño" (The Dream), "Plenitud" (Plenitude), "Agonía" (Agony) and "Noche" (Night) are the four parts into which the work is divided and reveal the vast journey of feelings that form as illusions, are enjoyed as pleasures, only to then fade with the essence of a misfortune...
