Inmates are permitted to write to any person outside of our jail facility.
Incoming inmate correspondence must be addressed as follows:

* Mail must be sent via US Postal Service.
* Incoming mail must reflect sender's name and address.
* Correspondence from Attorneys, as well as court and public officials, may be opened in the presence of the inmate to whom it is addressed and searched for contraband.
* In order to be considered legal mail, it must be conspicuously marked as "legal mail," "privileged," "attorney-client," or have a similar indication that the correspondence is intended to be confidential. It must be conspicuously marked as coming from an attorney or law firm and includes the law firm or legal services providers name, address, attorney name, and valid bar number. * It must be addressed by name to a specific inmate.
* Items not allowed: postage stamps, envelopes, blank stationary. After December 28, 2022 the jail will no longer accept Amazon book orders. Any delivered books will be returned to sender.
* All mail, except bona-fide legal mail, will be by standard white post cards with no pictures. The post cards must be no larger than 5x7. This is both incoming and outgoing mail.
* No stickers, glitter, or perfume sprayed postcards, drawings written in crayon, gel pen, glue or other similar substance. Drawings in pencil or regular pen will be permitted with the below exceptions.
* Any mail or photo whether paper or electronic that contains information regarding any of the following shall be rejected and if applicable returned to sender or placed in the inmates locker.
* The manufacturing, use, procurement of weapons, explosives, incendiary devices, poisons, or drugs.
* Advocating disorder, riots, or other institutional disruption.
* Sexually explicit or enticing drawings or photos.
* Drawings, icons, symbols, photos, or photo content that may be considered gang related.
Appeal Rejection of Mail
If any mail, electronic mail or photo you send is rejected and/or returned to sender, you may submit an appeal. This must be done in writing via letter or email to the below address/email. You must write Mail Appeal on the envelope or email subject line. You must include your contact information, inmate's name, the nature of the mail, and why you feel the decision was incorrect.
This appeal will be directed to a Jail Lieutenant who will consider the appeal and render a decision. If this Lieutenant is unable to make a decision, two other Lieutenants will be consulted and a majority decision will be rendered. The decision of the Lieutenant(s) is final and cannot be appealed.

Mail containing the following items will not be accepted:
* Personal checks, money orders, credit cards, and cash are not acceptable and will be returned to sender.
* Items that cannot be inspected without being damaged
* Items containing any type of material other than paper
* Items that may compromise the security of the facility
* Books, magazines or reading material, unless purchased and delivered directly from LCSO approved vendors.
* Any food items
* Any article of clothing, hygiene item or other personal property
* Postage stamps or envelopes (sold in commissary)
* Photos or images containing nudity
* Gang material, drawings, symbols, or any other type of text associated with gangs
