America: God's Plantation

Plantation: A settlement in a new country or region, Merriam-Webster. Ten years after those on the Mayflower started Plymouth Plantation, John Winthrop aboard the Arbella to Massachusetts delivered these words to those onboard in a sermon now known as "A Model of Christian Charity" "The Lord will be our God, and delight to dwell among us...when He shall make us a praise and glory that men shall say of succeeding plantations, 'may the Lord make it like that of New England.' For we must consider that we shall be as a city upon a hill. The eyes of all people are upon us." One hundred forty years later, the "shot heard round the world" was fired in Massachusetts, thus beginning America's independence. America was always intended to be God's planting.
