Blossom The Wild Ambassador of Tewksbury, is the author's true account of her astonishing friendship with BLOSSOM, an orphaned wild fawn with a dazzling personality, and the ten-year struggle to save her life within a hunting community.
The simple compassionate act of rescuing the young doe changes the course of their lives, and those around them, as the events of 9/11 unfold and cause many in this rural community to suffer intense personal tragedy. Anna discovers a deep level of intelligence and intuition in the doe that defies the traditionally held beliefs in the divide between man and nature.
Their adventures are full of fun, at times, terrifying, as awareness blurs nature's wildlife boundaries, and love grows. But ominous chatter in the community dramatizes the ramifications of protecting a deer within a hunting community, where the life expectancy for a deer is one and a half years.
Blossom's story is intertwined with Anna's recollections of long childhood hospitalizations resulting from a severe injury. She became a caretaker of sorts to other hospitalized children, and an interesting parallel backstory emerges.
The struggles between compassion and conflict increase the stakes when their unlikely friendship gains notoriety, making Blossom a target--to look at--or shoot at . Neighbors and hunters joined up to protect the Wild Ambassador of Tewksbury. Others bragged about using Blossom as bait and laughed about "Blossom burgers." A persistent stalker starts a campaign of terrifying warnings.
Although Anna saved the fawn through care and her paramedic skills, Blossom opens the world of self-identity for her human friend. Years of surgeries left Anna with a bruised self-image and an instinct to avoid problematic people and situations. Blossom changed all that and turned Anna from complacency to the challenge of sharing the world with the Wild Ambassador of Tewksbury.
