Description

I promised her I wouldn't let them forget. It was our Saturday to visit. Shortly after, she gazed at her great-granddaughter and said, "San, please don't let them forget me."

What a wonderful surprise from the Lord! I originally started out writing about my mom so our family would have a keepsake about some highlights of her life. These highlights include:

  • She was adopted.
  • She was given up for death.
  • She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the age of twenty-one and lived for Him from that day forth.
  • She was one of the first black women allowed to service whites in the front of a beauty salon in North Dallas.
  • She was in a serious car accident that she walked away from without a scratch, but as a result, at age eighty-one, she is in the progressive stages of dementia.

Long before she was diagnosed with dementia, I used to tell Mom that if Daddy passed away before she did, she would have to stay in a nursing home. Not knowing the depth of what I was saying at the time, Mom would say that I was going to take care of her, even though I said something different. Almost two years later, I am taking care of Mom. The roles have reversed. It has its difficulties, but through it all, I have learned to lean and depend on God as I remember to say, "More of Bobbie and less of me," every time I enter in to assist her.
