Description

Which animal has the most powerful bite of any living creature? Which animal has compounds within its blood that can combat diseases for which humans currently have no medicines? Which animal breathes air, but can stay submerged for hours at a time? The answer to all these questions is of course the crocodilians - the crocodiles and alligators and their cousins the caimans and gharial. Crocs have complex anatomy and physiology, and equally complex behaviour. They range from the relatively small to the truly gigantic, from rainforest dwellers to sea-going species, and from the plentiful to the Critically Endangered. "Crocodiles of the World" gives full coverage to all 30 currently recognised species and subspecies, exploring the origins of these amazing creatures, then delving into their extraordinary adaptations and lifestyles, making this the perfect book for anyone either casually interested or deeply fascinated by crocodiles.
