Description
"Fused Glass" presents an outline of the glass workings of Pete Rumball who, from 1987- 2003, was a pioneer of using glass fusion for the creation of window, door and fixed light panels. The book addresses the problems of Glass Compatibility and avoiding Internal Stress that can occur in fused glass due to inadequate annealing. Most of the panels that he produced were much thicker than normal stained glass panels, often up to 12mm thick, calling for a stringent annealing program to avoid Internal Stress. Any stress in the glass will sooner or later cause cracking and total failure. A simple filter using Polarised Sheets and the light box that Lead-Lighters have in their workshop is described for testing Fused Glass panels for stress. Temperature ranges for Slumping Glass, Fusing Glass, Annealing and Anneal Soaking are broadly presented, all subject to individual testing. Photographs of completed Commissions, Slumped Glass Lampshades, Fused Glass Table Tops, Fused Glass Sculptures, and Sun-Catchers are shown. Finally, several glass cutting patterns for Australian native plants and birds are presented.
