Description
Writing of this, Book Three of the "America" trilogy, was begun while the author was residing in Big Canoe, Georgia, some seven years ago, with his wife of forty years, Sandra Jean. The first two books, "Growing up in America" and "Making It in America", were also written in Big Canoe, but in 2014 they moved to an over-55 active adult community in Canton, Georgia where they expect to reside for the remaining years of their "golden years", or not Growing old has proven to be mostly about dealing with an aging infrastructure and the occasional breakdown of its components. Along the way, the couple had to negotiate being in the "sandwich" generation and resolve issues of aging and passing parents and siblings, and financial and family problems of children and grandchildren. As the author approaches eighty-two years of age, he is faced with the ultimate decision of what to do when either he or his spouse become incapacitated. The only "saving grace" in his current situation is that he now lives in a community of older adults that share similar experiences and expectations.
