He started his employment in the Aircraft industry, and travelled to Perth to join a local Airline. Here he started a family, and then later on operated a successful jewelry business for some years. His love of horses then led him to become a professional race horse trainer. He then completely changed tack and became a Restaurant proprietor, which eventually took him to Margaret River. He then retired to Augusta . His son Graeme worked with him both with the horses and in the Restaurants, while his daughter Lisa brought up her family in Perth.
