About the Author
JOHN L. SCHUM is the author of Learn About...Electronic Locking Devices and Learn About...Basic Electricity, published by Locksmith Publishing Corporation. He writes technical articles for trade magazines and has given numerous seminars throughout the United States and Canada for various trade groups. He also has been a program speaker at several security industry conventions.

John is a certified instructor for the Associated Locksmiths of America and has instructed for Yankee Security Conference since 1983. He has also taught courses on electromechanical hardware for the Door and Hardware Institute since 1985. He is currently head instructor for the DHI Electronic Hardware II course.

John has been involved in the design and application of electronic security hardware since 1979. He has served as engineering manager, customer service manager, and technical services manager for several manufacturers. John is currently vice president of sales for DynaLock Corporation and resides in Thomaston, Connecticut.
