Description

While many of his colleagues opted to make a career out of military service, Theodore R. Freeman Jr. decided to resign upon completion of his two years. He wanted the freedom to make his own daily decisions and choices. But first he needed to complete his ROTC-required two years.

An autobiography, Lucky Diplomat explores Freeman's career abroad. The primary function of a diplomat is to represent and protect the interests of their home country. They are granted immunity and are not subject to the jurisdiction of local courts and other authorities for both their official and, to a large extent, their personal activities. He considers himself fortunate for the opportunity to work in an interesting profession that allowed interaction with various cultures around the world.

During his career, Freeman also served as administrative area officer for the Near East and Africa in the Foreign Agricultural Service and as agribusiness director in the Office of International Cooperation and Development. He has worked in countries across the world, including Pakistan, Japan, Kenya, and Malaysia.

Freeman has served as dean of the College of Agriculture at his alma mater, Prairie View A&M University.
