About the Author
Ross Bentley

Ross's first career as a professional race car driver reached its pinnacle in the early 1990s when he raced Indy Cars against the Andrettis, Unser Jr., Mansell, Fittipaldi, and Rahal. A move to sports cars saw Ross winning both the 1998 United States Road Racing Championship and the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona in 2003.

As an entrepreneur, Ross has been founder, or co-founder, of five companies. While each company has had its normal ups and downs, it's what he's learned from the experiences that is most meaningful to him.

In 1997, Ross wrote his first book, Speed Secrets, about the art and science of race car driving. Ross loves to write; Performance Pilot will be his eleventh title.

Ross is also a self-confessed learning junkie. He's extensively studied neuroscience, kinesiology, business practices, management technique, marketing, finance, sports psychology, coaching, and human learning.

As a performance coach, specializing in bringing out the best performance in individuals and teams, no matter the environment, Ross has traveled all over North America, Australia, Korea, China and Europe. In addition to race-car drivers, Ross has coached athletes, CEOs, business owners, managers, employees, and pilots!

Ross is passionate about performance and enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience, whether he's conducting a seminar or giving a keynote speech.

Phil Wilkes

Phil's eclectic flying career has spanned more than 30 years in both military and civil aviation. He's logged over 13,000 hours in 30 different types. In the military, Phil was academic dux of his pilot course, flew jet-trainers, and captained military transport aircraft. After leaving the air force, Phil flew low-level power-line survey before managing and instructing at a flying school. He's flown turbo-props on mining FIFO operations, night freight, and a regional airline with the world's longest route structure. He's also flown short and long-haul jets for the most iconic of Australian carriers.

Phil loves to teach and has considerable training experience teaching in flying, aircraft systems, performance, aerodynamics, military leadership, and management. He's also coached race driving and is a ski instructor.

As an amateur racer, Phil used the techniques in Ross's motorsport books to achieve a Rookie of the Year award and three state titles. Phil's exposure to Ross's books lead to their collaboration on Performance Pilot.
