Description

This WW II memoir was written as a tribute to Senzi Markthaler, a young farm woman who took extraordinary risks to ensure the safety and good treatment of 19 American POWs sent to work on farms in the German village of Bebenhausen. Thanks to her frequent intervention on their behalf it is also a celebration of Senzi's ability to achieve peace and understanding between people who are hostile to one another. This is the book that the author promised Senzi more than 60 years ago. It was translated into German, and read aloud to her and her family. Typically, she forgave the author for the book's factual errors, including her age. (She was only 28 at the time, not 40.)
