About the Author
Denise began working with family caregivers in 1990, launching Caregiving.com in 1996 and AfterGiving.com in 2011. Her insights about the family caregiver experience have been featured in Time magazine, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News and World Report, Reuters, Money magazine and Chicago Tribune and on NPR.org and SmartMoney.com. CareGiving.com was one of the first websites to incorporate online support groups, feature the blogs of family caregivers and add a social networking community. The site features weekly care plans just for family caregivers, a Community Caregiving Journal and a Caregiving Happiness Project. Denise was one of the first to use Twitter to connect with family caregivers, launching an every-other-week chat for family caregivers (#carechat) in 2011. Through CareGiving.com, family caregivers share their stories, solutions and support. The website offers various ways for family caregivers to connect and share. Each September, family caregivers of all ages show off their creative side in a Caregiving Art Show. Every December, the site sponsors a Holiday Progressive Blog Party. A certified professional coach, Denise helps family caregivers find the answers to their questions: Why me? Why now? What now? She helps her caregiving clients create coping strategies to use on bad days; develop communication skills to with difficult family dynamics; find more time to invest in their needs and interests; and gain a healthy perspective on a challenging issue. A coaching client says, "Denise was interested, compassionate, and understanding. She helped me verbalize my concerns and suggested ways I can address these." Another clients says, "Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me, help me with ideas, and also for sending the links to the meditations. I feel relieved after talking to you." Her Internet talk show, Your Caregiving Journey, airs several times a week. "Just so you know, YOU have made all the difference in this new world of caregiving for us...and Mom benefits from it as a result!!," writes a talk show listener. "Your knowledge and expertise, and sweet-loving-soothing-voice are my mother earth to run to each night! As an aside, your podcast is soooooo soothing - no loud, lingering sounds or theme song--much appreciated after long days of jarred senses and emotions. I feel cocooned in the reassuring safety of your company."
