Description

This book has been put back into print after many years of absence because "The Psychology of Flight" can provide modern pilots - everyone from new students to seasoned professionals - what's needed to continuously make themselves ready for whatever the piloting tasks ahead might be. In essence, it's nothing less than an exquisitely written 'Checklist for the Self'.While it's important to study and understand the rules, the procedures and the particulars of each airplane that a pilot gets into, it is even more important to have a good understanding of the inner workings of the flesh and blood person who will be pushing the levers, pressing the switches, turning the wheels and making the decisions that affect the course of these technological marvels that are airplanes. You.This is not the sort of book that you should read only once, not just because there is so much inside, but also because we need refresher training now and again in this most important of all aviation related subjects: basically, a pilot's inner workings.Keep this book on a convenient shelf to be pulled down periodically for recurrent proficiency in the area that is ultimately most important to a pilot: before we can control an airplane with the necessary skills and consistency, we also need to understand how to control ourselves as well as humanly possible.

About the Author
Thomas Block has been a pilot for nearly 60 years, beginning with Piper J3 Cubs as a teenager. Over the next few years he flew various general aviation aircraft and eventually stepped into airliners. He has accumulated a total of 31,000 hours of flight time. His airline flying career spanned a 36 year period, starting with piston powered propeller airliners on domestic routes and finishing with Trans-Atlantic Widebody jets. In addition, he has been a noted aviation author of books and magazine articles, including 24 years as a columnist and features writer for FLYING Magazine, a dozen-plus years with Cessna Flyer and Piper Flyer magazines, 10 years as a columnist for Plane & Pilot Magazine, plus various other publications. He has written a number of aviation theme novels, many of which have gone on to bestseller status around the world; one of his novels was made into a movie in the United States, and one was performed as a serial radio drama in Japan. He has traveled the world extensively for his magazine and book research, and has accumulated cockpit time in everything from blimps, gliders, and up through Supersonic Transports. In recent years he has turned to audio book production and narration, and, while he has produced a large mix of material, he has often concentrated on aviation theme novels and non-fiction works - including this book.
