Maddy Gates has escaped her stressful life as a newly published author and has come to her family vacation home in Michigan. Although longing for the peace and quiet that this secluded place promises, her inquisitive mind does not rest for long. Just as she's settling in, a brooding and mysterious Chicago cop who has been temporarily relieved of his duties arrives at the cottage next door.
