Description
This book was written with three goals in mind. First, as an introduction to the field of Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling. Second, as a way to educate the reader in a wide range of disabilities, including mental health, cognitive, physical, and developmental disorders. Third, to provide real life scenarios and real-life solutions to guide counselors who work with these individuals. As a veteran counselor, I have worked with well over a thousand clients with disabilities. I have gained an intimate knowledge of disabilities as well as the impact upon the individuals. The book describes the mandated States' VR system, and those resources used to provide financial supports to retrain, re-educate and rehabilitate the clients. You will find many examples of case studies, interviews, and observations that include counseling techniques, and out-of-the-box solutions to barriers and vocational placement. The book presents a clear, in-depth look at real vocational rehabilitation in the field, with an emphasis on a person-centered approach to VR. It also provides a wealth of resources and guidance that enhance the knowledge of both practicing counselors and counselors new to the field. I hope it provides a valuable addition to the "toolbox" of all types of disability counselors.
