Summer is the perfect time to showcase the physique you’ve worked hard on all year. And who better to share expert tips on improving your physique than Logan Franklin, the man on this month’s cover and one of the top stars of the Classic Physique division, and one of the best posers in bodybuilding. Logan will be competing for the first time in over a year on August 18-19 at the Texas Pro. His insider techniques on training and fat loss can serve as a blueprint to fine-tune your own physique for a more classic look this summer and throughout the year.

In “Get a Classic Summer Physique With Logan Franklin,” The Texas Oak identifies key body parts to focus on, gives advice for training shoulders, arms, calves, and abs, and offers his best nutrition tips for a tight waist and flat midsection.“Bodybuilding is about trying to build every muscle to the max,” Logan tells MD this month. “The goal is extreme development. Classic Physique is more about shape, beauty, and art. We try to piece together the most perfectly balanced physique possible.”

The third edition of the IFBB Texas Pro on August 18-19 will undoubtedly be its most epic one yet, featuring two men who have both been discussed as being potential future Mr. Olympia champions. As the defending champion, Andrew Jacked has been on a mission since the Arnold Classic in March to improve his already astonishing physique. As he returns to defend that title, he will face formidable opposition from Hunter Labrada, who has added substantial mass while keeping a small waist. Both are pros with legions of loyal fans who are adding tremendous interest and excitement to the Open bodybuilding division, and this matchup leading into the 2023 Mr. Olympia is eagerly anticipated. Get the whole story in “Andrew vs. Hunter: The Battle for Texas!” May the best man win in Texas!

Bryan Jones is a bodybuilder who was destined to make waves in the Classic Physique division. At the 2020 Chicago Pro, Classic Physique alone featured 30 men. When they came on stage for judging, one man, Bryan Jones, stood out in a flash as the one to beat with his great shape and structure. A few months later, Jones placed fifth in his first Mr. Olympia appearance. Since then, Jones has been working hard to build the additional size needed to successfully transition to the Open category. Ron Harris spoke with him about his brief but notable time in Classic, and how he plans to make a big splash in Open in “Bryan Jones: The Lord of Classic Returns!”

Edgard John-Augustin stands out in any bodybuilding contest for several reasons. He’s 6-foot-3 and has also built a world-class physique as a double amputee, and he wears two prostheses from the knees down. Ron Harris spoke with this remarkable athlete shortly after the best placing of his career so far, fourth place in Classic Physique at the Toronto Pro, in “The Bionic Body of Classic Physique! Meet the Inspirational Edgard John-Augustin.” Of his achievements and overcoming obstacles, John-Augustin offers this advice: “If I did it, anybody can do it. You just have to want it badly enough.”

Powerlifting and physique competition are two entirely different endeavors. One athlete trains purely to be as strong as possible, while the other uses weights to sculpt a flawlessly developed and proportionate body. MuscleMeds athlete Julia Di Pompeo is one of the few who has achieved success in both sports simultaneously and is certainly one of the only women to have ever done so. While Julia has done well in powerlifting (bench press: 235, squat: 440, deadlift: 435), IFBB Pro League Figure is where she has truly shined, winning the Chicago Pro in 2022. Her achievements so far fly in the face of myths that would have us believe that a Figure competitor needs to avoid very heavy training with the basic lifts. Learn more about this unique young woman from Illinois in “The Amazing Power of Julia Di Pompeo: Pro Figure Champ and Pro Powerlifter!”
