About the Author
Susan Maclagan is a freelance flutist, flute and music theory instructor, editor and author who lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She has studied the flute for more than 50 years. Her career has included playing in the Calgary Philharmonic and in a flute and harp or piano ensemble called Windsong; teaching privately with a specialty in flute technique and at institutions such as the University of Toronto and Havergal College; and writing for flute magazines and newsletters. Susan has won several scholarships and studied at the University of Toronto, the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, the Banff School of Fine Arts, the Aspen School of Music, Jeunesses Musicales of Canada and has attended a huge number of flute master classes and 25 National Flute Association conventions. She recently, edited, advised, and contributed to the book Flute Secrets (2017), which was written by the renowned flutist and pedagogue, Trevor Wye. On Facebook, she has a fan page for her dictionary and administers the "Flute Tips Group","The Flute Classifieds, and "Favorite Flute Videos" pages which she started. Her teachers have included Keith Underwood, Geoffrey Gilbert, Louis Moyse and Jeanne Baxtresser.
