About the Author
Dr. Dmitri Souza earned his medical degree in 1987 and Doctor of Science degree in 2000. He is board-certified in pain medicine, anesthesiology, internal medicine, and headache medicine. He graduated from the anesthesiology residency program at Yale University School of Medicine in Connecticut; from the internal medicine residency at Good Samaritan Hospital of Maryland, which is affiliated with Johns Hopkins University; and from the pain medicine program at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Souza is a pain physician and the Director of Clinical Research at Western Reserve Hospital, Ohio. He has authored more than a hundred publications, including two books. He serves as a Faculty and a Member of the Board of Directors at several national physician symposia, where he teaches pain medicine. He is a Founding Member and Co-Chair of the ASRA Pain Medicine Regenerative Medicine special interest group, Member-at-Large at the ASRA Pain Medicine Continuing Medical Education Committee, Co-Chair of ultrasonography in Pain Medicine ASRA and American Academy of Pain Medicine Courses, and Faculty at the IASP World Congress of Pain. He serves as Board Member at the American Interventional Headache Society, and Board Member at the American Board of Headache Medicine. His clinical expertise includes but is not limited to advanced management of complex pain syndromes, acute pain service, and bedside pain management interventions.
Dr. Kohan is a Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at the University of Virginia. She obtained her medical degree from Georgetown University where she also completed her residency in anesthesia. She completed her pain medicine fellowship at the University of Virginia where she has since stayed on as faculty. She has been serving as the Director of the Pain Medicine Fellowship for the past several years. She also serves as the Division Chief of Pain Medicine. She is actively involved in pain committees on the local and national level. She is a founding member of the Virginia Pain Society and currently serves as the Treasurer of the Society. She also serves on editorial boards for several pain journals.
