About the Author
In 1957 Mrs. Francis Kipps Spencer researched, design, and made the first set of Chrismons Ornaments based on the ancient symbols of the Christian faith. Her attempt to find a more suitable Christmas Tree for the Church sparked a ministry of sharing faith through handwork. Mrs. Spencer traveled extensively and taught churches how to start their own Chrismons Ministry. Her greatest desire was to share faith in this unique and beautiful form requiring the Chrismons Ornaments never be sold commercially. A set of Chrismons Francis made along with her church family are part of the collections at the Smithsonian Institute. Mrs. Spencer authored four pattern books which are available to purchase along with new instructions for home size versions of many of her designs. The original ornaments are still displayed on the tree every December at the Ascension Lutheran Church in Danville, Virginia.
