About the Author
Dr. Simon Anderson (1931-2016) taught at the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music for 41 years, retiring in 2005. While there, his Music Appreciation and Jazz and Pop Music History classes were always crowded to capacity. As a weekend jazz pianist, a Sunday morning choir director, a composer, a convention speaker, an opera and classical music lecturer, and a university instructor, he brought a wealth of experience and insight to the task of explaining music to college students nationwide with his books The Musical Imperative and Pop Music, USA. Dr. Gerard Aloisio received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. A musical "jack of all trades", he has long specialized in making music come alive for people of all types, backgrounds, and age groups. General Education music classes, especially large ones, remain his first love and primary area of expertise. Prof. Aloisio teaches all of the Music Department offerings for non-majors at Minnesota State University at Mankato. Nearly 60% of M.S.U. students take at least one class with him before they graduate. He is also a well-respected professional trombonist, having performed with numerous professional orchestras and artists of every musical genre. Dr. Warren Anderson received his Doctorate in Worship Studies from the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies in Jacksonville, Fla. He currently serves as Director of Judson University's Demoss Center for Worship in the Performing Arts, Dean of the Chapel, and Director of the Judson University Choir, which travels regularly across the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean. Dr. Josh Jones holds degrees from Northwestern, Boston, and Butler Universities. He teaches voice, composition, and general education courses at Judson University. He is an active adjudicator and clinician in masterclasses and competitions in the Chicago area. Dr. Jones has performed as a guest soloist and professional chorister with organizations such as the Grant Park Music Festival, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Elmhurst Choral Union. He also serves as the director of worship at Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Algonquin, Illinois.
