About the Author
Jennifer Whitlock Heisler, RN is a registered nurse who has cared extensively for weight loss surgery (WLS) patients in a number of capacities. As a surgical ICU nurse, she has cared for patients immediately after WLS and for patients who were having long-term issues post-WLS. In addition to presenting information to patients and their families in a clear, easy-to-understand way, she has also done significant amounts of research and written about WLS as the Guide to Surgery for About.com.
Christine Ren Fielding, MD is an associate professor of surgery at NYU School of Medicine, and the director of the NYU Program for Surgical Weight Loss. After graduating from Tufts School of Medicine and completing a surgical residency at NYU Medical Center and a laparoscopic fellowship at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Ren founded the NYU bariatric program. Dr. Ren has lectured both nationally and internationally on laparoscopic bariatric surgery, but is most well known for her extensive experience with gastric banding. She performed more than 3,000 bariatric operations in her career.
