Description
Bobby Moegle coached baseball at Lubbock Monterey High School from 1960 to 1999. He was the first high school baseball coach inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame on the strength of 1,115 wins, four state championships and 13 appearances in the state tournament (the final four).
He made his first state tournament appearance in 1961 and his final appearance in 1997. While he had gone from coaching kids who might fight in Vietnam to kids raised with video games, much in his approach to teaching and coaching winning baseball remained consistent.
Drawing on over 30 interviews, Moegle, his former players and coaches reveal their memories of building a program, teaching fundamentals and instilling toughness.
From the practices, the tradition and the impact of his program, the stories are all here.
