He graduated from Pittsboro High School (1962) and Indiana State University (1966). In his book, he tells his unique story of growing up, playing, and coaching basketball in several small schools in central and northern Indiana including Pittsboro High School, Lebanon Jr. High, Pioneer High School, North Salem High School, and West Noble High School during the peak of "Hoosier Hysteria" in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. The author also gives insight into how issues like school consolidation, the end of one class basketball, and "Saturday Morning" coaches effected the game. He feels privileged to have played against or coached with or against several INDIANA BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME players and coaches including, Jeff Blue (Bainbridge), Jim Rosenstihl (Lebanon), Pat Rady (Bainbridge & Southmont), Ike Tallman (North Putnam), Al Tucker (Cloverdale), Tom Goldsberry (South Putnam), Bill Patrick (Whitko), Bob Heady (Wawasee) and Basil Mawby (Angola). He also feels a connection to the movie "HOOSIERS" because he played or coached in three of the gyms used in filming the movie, the Brownsburg College Avenue Gym, the Hinkle Field House, and the Lebanon Memorial Gym. His Pittsboro High School teammate and best friend's son, Wade Schenck, also played Ollie in the movie. He blends episodes that occured in the movie "Hoosiers" with situations he had during his almost twenty-years of playing and coaching the best game ever played, Indiana high school basketball. Finally. he shares his testimony of how a medical situation his wife experienced six years ago changed their life.
If you enjoy Indiana high school basketball, the movie "HOOSIERS", comeback stories, love stories, and people dealing with adversity, he hopes your will enjoy his story and connect with his book.
